I’m normally not into the electro music genre but Snookered from Dan Deacon is a f***ing masterpiece.

Also a very creative use of the comment feature in the video ;-)

You don’t have to be high for this song, it makes you high.

KEXP-FM live performances

KEXP-FM live performances:

The Thermals KEXP live

I don’t know how I managed to oversee the YouTube channel from KEXP until now. KEXP Radio is a public radio station based in Seattle, Washington. They’ve got a nice music blog, too. They invite artists and bands in their own studio to perform live, recorded in amazing HD material.

My favourites so far:

You could see them and a bunch of other music videos I like on my “music”-channel.

Just wondering, why it’s always OK Go that makes amazing videos that go viral to their singles?

It started with Here It Goes Again and now there are even two versions to their current single This Too Shall Pass:

The one in pure nature & the one above, in a dark factory building.
I like the second one better. Because their smashing their own video. And it has a Rube Goldberg machine - ‘nuf said.

[Edit] Wired has some interesting insights about the video shoot:

Sadowsky estimates that 55 to 60 people worked on the project in all. [..] In addition, Syyn Labs recruited 30 or more people to help reset the machine after each run. […] Even with all those people helping, resetting the whole machine took close to an hour.
The video was shot by a single Steadicam, but it took more than 60 takes, […]

Hype Machine Podcast mania

hype machine

Ok, let’s start at the beginning. I love music, I really do. And I love fresh music and to discover new artists.

As for many other things, the web is a perfect place for music discovery. There are lots of cool folks out there who put together blogs with reviews, infos and mp3’s.

The Hype Machine simply aggregates all that stuff. From their about page:

To put it simply, the Hype Machine keeps track of what music bloggers write about. We handpick a set of kickass music blogs and then present what they discuss for easy analysis, consumption and discovery.

So before the Hype Machine, I subscribed the relevant blogs with my preferred feed reader, saved the audio file to my disk, created a new playlist in iTunes and synced them with my iPhone, just to get them on the go.

With the Hype Machine I can follow specific blogs and can listen to all of them from the dashboard.

The deficit: It only works online on their site.

So I took the feeds they offer, applied a little Pipes-Magic and got a Podcast feed with embedded audio files:

Hype Machine Podcast creator

The input can be any Hype Machine RSS feed. The generated URL (e.g. this one) has to be imported in iTunes via the “Subscribe to Podcast” button. From now on iTunes will download all you favourite mp3’s from the blogs directly to your disk and if you want to, you could sync them with your iPod/iPhone.

Nice, isn’t it?

Binary Beat

This is an experiment, where I count one byte up - from 00000000 to 11111111. Decimal spoken, this is from 0 to 255. I have assigned a sound to each bit and when it switches from 0 to 1, the sound is played.

"Music is a hidden arithmetic exercise of the soul, which does not know that it is counting."
